Intro
project
This audiovisual piece was created to highlight the LACOS and METAESTANY projects, scientific initiatives that study the carbon cycle, metabolism, and gas emissions of the lakes Tres Estanys and Naorte. The goal is to understand how climate change and human presence are affecting these fragile ecosystems, and how we can preserve them.
During filming, we accompanied the research team, led by Núria Catalán, in their gas monitoring and data collection work, showing how these lakes can act as carbon sinks or sources. One of the most noteworthy cases is that of Lake Naorte, where restoration efforts have almost completely eradicated the red barbel, an invasive fish species that had been threatening the lake’s ecological balance.
This video not only documents the research but also carries a strong environmental awareness message, especially for younger audiences. The projects include educational activities with schools in the Pyrenees, aiming to bring science closer to new generations and encourage a stronger bond with their natural surroundings.
It has been a privilege to shape this story through visual storytelling. We firmly believe in the power of audiovisual narratives to deliver key messages about environmental conservation, to inspire meaningful action, and to shine a light on essential projects that often unfold far from the media spotlight—but are crucial for the future of our planet.
