Intro
project
The MEDCHANGE project investigates environmental changes in Mediterranean coastal ecosystems in response to natural and anthropogenic disturbances during the Holocene. The study uses paleoenvironmental archives obtained from marine seagrass sediments to reconstruct the ecological dynamics of these ecosystems over time.
Using paleoreconstruction techniques and the analysis of various biogeochemical, chemical and isotopic indicators, the aim is to discriminate between natural and anthropogenic changes, establish pre-industrial reference values and predict future patterns of change. This approach provides essential information for the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems and is aligned with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2027 and climate change adaptation plans.
